Moongre or Radish pods are a local Indian delicacy. Hence the recipes are mostly traditional.
There are two camps regarding the taste and acceptance of this vegetable, like cabbage 😉 I cannot guarantee about whether one will like this vegetable or not, but if you are adventurous about food, go ahead !! 😀
In this northern part of India, radish pods are loacaly called moongre. They are crunchy with a strong radish taste and are usually found in huge piles by the vegetable vendors.
Presenting the Moongre / Radish pods stir fry of the Winter Platter 3
Here’s what I did……………
INGREDIENTS
180 gms – moongre /radish pods
1 nos – medium sized potato
1 tsp – grated ginger
1/2 ts – dried mango powder / amchoor
1/2 tsp – tumeric powder
1/2 tsp – coriander powder
1/4 tsp – red chili powder
2 tsp – oil
pinch of asafoetida/ hing
pinch of cumin seeds
salt to taste
METHOD
Wash the radish pods. Cut off both the ends and snap them or them into 1″ pieces. Peel, rinse and cube the potato.
Heat oil in a pan and temper with asafoetida and cumin seeds. Add the ginger and the potato. Saute the potato for 2 mins. Add the moongre / radish pods. Add all the spices, salt, lower the heat and cook covered for 14 -15 mins with occasional stir in between. The spices will become fragrant and will coat the vegetables. Check if the vegetables have turned soft. If yes, increase the flame. If no, cover and cook for few more mins.
Once the vegetables have softened, increase the flame and start tossing for 4 -5 mins. This will make it crunchy and crispy.
Take it off fire.
Serve hot with flat bread.
Happy cooking !! 😀
Cheers !! 😀
