This is the vegetarian version of Fatehpuri kebab, a lesser known cousin of the famous Galouti kebab.
Fatehpuri is a well known area for food lovers of Delhi. The place lies in the adjacent area of the Fatehpuri mosque, Chandni Chowk, old Delhi.
Originally this kebab is made of minced goat or lamb meat, with a rich taste of poppy seeds and almond paste.
Here, I have replaced the mince meat with soy granules mince. 🙂
Soy is increasingly becoming a dependable source of protein among vegetarians in India. It has been named ‘the vegetarian meat’ 😉
Here’s what i did……….
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cup – soy granules
4 pods – garlic
2 tsp – poppy seeds
1 1/2 tsp – coriander seeds
1 tsp – cumin seeds
1 tbsp – almonds
1 tbsp – gram flour / besan
1 nos – medium sized onion
2 nos – green chilli
1 nos – egg (beaten)
salt to taste
oil for shallow frying
METHOD
Soak the soy granules in hot watr for 30 mins. Meanwhile, finely chop the green chillies and onion.
Dry roast the coriander, cumin and poppy seeds.
Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the onions. keep aside.
Squeeze the water out of the granules. Grind the granules, almonds, garlic pods and the roasted spices to paste.
In a mixing bowl, mix together the paste, chopped green chilli, fried onion and the beaten egg. Add salt and gram flour to the mix. Shape the kebab to a desired shape.
Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry them to golden brown.
Serve hot with onion rings and chutney or sauce of your choice. Here i served with tangy English mustard sauce and American barbeque sauce.
Happy cooking !! 🙂
